Green Instruments and Danfoss IXA Develop Breakthrough Emissions Sensor

With support from the Danish Maritime Fund, Danfoss IXA and Green Instruments are now taking the first steps towards creating an emissions sensor which will measure environmentally-impacting gases at source in ship chimneys.

Danfoss IXA and Green Instruments’ cooperation is literally riding the waves of the increasing demand for emissions measuring equipment for the maritime sector. With the support of the Danish Maritime Fund, it will be possible to implement Danfoss IXA’s breakthrough sensor technology in a platform from Green Instruments. By combining the platform and new measuring technology, the two entrepreneurial companies have an extremely robust product, which will measure the emission of CO₂ and nitrous gases from ships throughout the world.

Sparkling Cooperation

With different backgrounds as technology developer and technology integrator respectively, the sensor from Danfoss IXA and Green Instruments builds on a sparkling cooperation, driven by a shared ambition to enter the maritime sector.

“We see a great deal of attention towards emissions measurement today. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has already this year set up requirements for the measurement of CO₂ released from ships, and by 2016, all new ships must reduce their emission of nitrous gases (NO_x) by 80%. This has resulted in great demand for equipment which measures emissions at source in the chimney. So, with the project, we see huge potential for implementing a very promising technology in our platform,” says Poul Sørensen, Managing Director, Green Instruments.

Danfoss IXA is happy about the support of the Danish Maritime Fund and sees opportunities in the patented sensor technology:

An Important Step for Denmark

Denmark already has a dominant position within the shipping industry and the ambition for the project is to create a dominant position within emissions measurement.
